Gym Reservations

For convenience and ease, reservations for using the gym can now be made online, at BHHA.org.

If you already have an upcoming appointment confirmed by Janelle Vanderpool, you will not need to re-register for that time slot on the website. It has been entered into the system already.

To make a new reservation – log in to BHHA.org, then hover over the Amenities link on the top menu, which will then display a sub-menu called Reservations. Alternatively, you can click on Amenities, and then scroll down to where it says Work Out Facility – that text is linked to the Reservations page. If you are logged in to the website, you can also click the link below this article.

After you get to the Reservations page, click on the Check Availability button. You will then see an availability calendar where you can choose a 1-hour time slot to use the gym. Only available time slots will be shown, within 72 hours (3 days) of the current time. The gym is open 7 days a week from 6:00am to 7:00pm.

After you’ve chosen a time slot & clicked Next, you will see a form for your contact information, most of which may be automatically filled in from your login profile. You will also be asked for your Member ID / Parcel Number.

When you’ve finished booking your time slot, you will receive a confirmation e-mail and the Administration staff will also be notified. If you need to make any changes to your reservation after it’s been booked, click on your Name on the very top left of any page when you are logged in, which will bring up a small menu and you can navigate to My Bookings.

While you can make a reservation at any time of day, and on weekends, the Administration office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. If you need additional support, contact Janelle Vanderpool during the office hours, at 415-300-5974 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. She will be monitoring the reservations made online and reviewing the calendar.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

NOISE AND NUISANCE - WHAT IS IT?

The final BHHA RULES, PROCEDURES & FINES policy is online at BHHA.org > Members > Documents. It was approved by the Board in February 2022.

An important part of the Association’s Rules concern “Noise and Nuisance” (see page 7-8 of the BHHA Rules). There is “noise”: serious, long and loud noise coming from a neighbor or other source; there is “nuisance”: unreasonable acts of annoyance or nuisance that interfere with the quiet enjoyment of each owners property; and there is “noise nuisance” - any unusually loud or unnecessary noise that causes unreasonable disturbance. Repeated Nuisance Noise, even if temporarily resolved, is a violation of Association Rules.

The Association Rules have a long footnote at the bottom of page 8 that explains that “courts have noted that a certain amount of “nuisance” must be tolerated: [E]very annoyance or disturbance of a landowner from the use made of property by a neighbor does not constitute a nuisance. The question is not whether plaintiffs have been annoyed or disturbed…but whether there has been an injury to legal rights…”

In addition to our Association Rules there are county laws that prohibit nuisance in various forms. Here is a reprint of a 4/10/2022 article included in an emailing sent by District 5 Supervisor Lynda Hopkins entitled “Noise and Light Pollution - What can be done?”

This article is very informative and explains the county’s response to neighbor concerns about nuisance:

NOISE AND LIGHT POLLUTION - WHAT CAN BE DONE?

While the Vacation Rental License ordinance is not yet passed, there are several steps you can take to address the issues of noise and light pollution from rentals or even full time residences.

Noise complaints: While the County does not have a noise ordinance, short term rental permits have a noise standard that must be complied with. Even the daytime noise standard is relatively strict and if noise is disturbing you before 10:00pm it’s likely that whatever is going on violates the County standard.

Two recommendations with regard to documenting noise: (1) Take a short video outside while the noisy activity is happening. There is a surprising amount of information regarding sound levels that can be extracted from the metadata embedded in the video. (2) An even better way to document noise is to install the NIOSH Sound Level Meter App developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While the app is free, its necessary to use a device with common hardware and software architecture that is optimized for audio applications. Only Apple products meet this specification, and the app is iOS only.

Send your video and information on noise issues to Permit Sonoma Code Enforcement.

All night light pollution: Requesting timers and time limits on lights has also proved successful when requested of short term rentals. Having an agreement that outside lights are off by 9 or 10 Pm makes a big difference to nearby residences.

Permit Sonoma is on the cusp of rolling out the 24-hour hotline, which will hopefully improve enforcement and provide residences with some relief. With the hotline going in, homeowners have some enforcement power to back them up when requesting light and noise abatement from short term rentals.

Thank you. Let’s all enjoy the coast together!

Member Survey

Thank you to all of you who have already responded to the Member Survey - the overall response rate has been good, and we are in the process of compiling the results, which will be shared with all members at a Board meeting this summer.

We want to hear from all members because the survey will better guide future planning for BHHA business operations and member amenities. If you need a link to the survey, please contact Gabrielle Harris at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

What is my BHHA Parcel / Member Number?

Each of our 725 Bodega Harbour lots has a "Parcel" number from 001 to 725.

The Accounting office adds a “1” at the beginning. This makes our "Member" numbers from 1001 to 1725.

Your basic Member number is on your BHHA owner’s access card: 1xxx.

Member numbers also have an “A” attached at the end. That makes it 1001A to 1725A.

Your "full" Member number is on your Statement: 1xxxA.

If you need to confirm your Parcel / Member number, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Food & Beverage Changes

Thank you to those who have reached out with suggestions to rename the Lounge and Snack Bar - they are being compiled into one document for the Board to review at their next meeting.

We hope to see you soon at the Snack bar! Be sure to bring your Member ID card to show the staff at the Snack bar so you will get your discount!

Thank you for your support.

LITERATURE GROUP

On May 2, Cindy Borisoff will present Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Note: This is a book change. The original May book, The Shipping News by Prouix/presenter Joan Howarth, will now be presented in August.

Published in 1937, Their Eyes Were Watching God “centers on a black heroine’s sensuality in a way that was uncommon in literature at its time of publication.” Richard Wright criticized the novel for “not explicitly addressing the race problem, and for allegedly choosing sensuality over social commentary.”

(Eve Dunbar, Assoc. Professor of English, Vassar College)

The novel follows Janie’s journey through the rural South, three marriages, and the Okeechobee Hurricane of 1928 to find love, self- acceptance, and community. “Throughout the novel Janie finds her dream constrained by socioeconomic, gendered, and racial structures. It is only through story telling that she can escape these structures and dare to achieve fulfillment…” (Emily Frampton, The Albatross)

The Literature Group meetings are held the first Monday of each month. (If the date has a holiday conflict, the meetings are typically moved to the following Monday. Meetings will be held either Poolside at the Bodega Harbour Clubhouse, inside at the Bistro Dining Room, or via ZOOM.

Maurine/Elaine will confirm the meeting place prior to each presentation/discussion.

If you have any questions about the Literature Group, please contact Maurine Harkness (This email address is being protected from spambots. Spring in the Harbour
May 2022

Spring is in the air here in the Harbour, and with it has come Spring Showers. The rain is welcomed, as our gardens are quenched naturally. We’ve seen blooming daffodils in abundance, along with the warm Spring Sunsets.

Because of Spring Showers, our greens in the garden grow taller. Spring can be a busy time - trimming, weed whacking if necessary & just general spring cleaning. Add new mulch to assist in limiting the amount of watering needed, preventing new weeds, & just putting the icing on the garden.

In approximately a month when the Pride of Madeira ends their blooming cycle. It will be time to determine which plants have become leggy, ending their lifecycle, and be removed.

Here are some helpful hints:

1. Trim your trees annually, or semi-annually, depending on the need, so they stay healthy, just a few feet annually all around. Always best to trim in Winter, during dormancy, while many birds have migrated. If from inside a neighbors home, your tree is blocking their view, they can make a formal written complaint that will require a tree trimming in the worse possible time both for wildlife & for the health of the tree, if not dormant.

2. Each Spring we work out a special with Grab N Grow in Santa Rosa, give them a call to check on the special. Share with a neighbor to reduce the cost of the delivery.

3. As a reminder each month, Echium Candicans or Echium Fastuosum (Pride of Madeira) is part of our community. They grow wild throughout, and can be quite beautiful as they are first to bloom in Spring. Gardens that are maintained can be striking, while being a superb pollinator. Because it is a tender perennial/biennial & a large shrub, it must be maintained and the dead plants and branches removed annually. This plant is prohibited as part of new landscaping plans.

Please Remove old, leggy, dead or dying Echium. The LRC is spearheading a community wide eradication of this and other invasive species. Your removal will help this effort.

4. New Landscaping Plans, very important, to save time, in addition to the plans, a baggy filled with the sample mulch (organic & not dyed), samples of stone/gravel. Our goal is to have landscaping blend. There are many types of mulch, stone, & gravel that can add beauty to your garden. If you do not provide samples, this can delay the beginning of your project.

See Landscape regulations to insure you are following the submission guidelines. They can be found in Members area documents of the BHHA website @ BHHA.ORG

5. If you wish to submit plans for new landscaping that include water system e.g. drip, paths, plants, mulch & more; or, wish to submit a written complaint on the BHHA form, we ask that requests be submitted two weeks prior to the Landscaping Committee meeting. The Landscaping Committee typically meets the second Monday of the month. Therefore, requests should to be received by the fourth Monday of the month.

6. A simple request, if it’s raining, please turn off your water system. Driving through the subdivision on a wet spring day there were sprinklers on full force, as it was raining.

7. We were asked to provide a list of plants specifically prohibited from new plans submission. Per the Landscaping Guidelines: Some non-native plants do well in the Bodega Harbour environment but are invasive and

can displace native plants. Many of the invasive species spread when the winds common to the coast blow the seeds around, and when seeds are distributed by birds. To protect the surrounding natural environment, the following plants are prohibited in the landscape applications.

  • Carpobrotus…Ice Plant
  • Cordaeria jubata and Cortadera selloana…Pampas Grass
  • Cotoneaster…Cotoneaster
  • Echium candicans…Pride of Madeira/Tower of Jewels
  • Genista..Broom
  • Myoporum laetum…Myoporum
  • Nasella tenuissima…Mexican Feather Grass
  • Ulex europaeus…Gorse
  • Vinca Major…Periwinkle
  • Bamboo - All except those grown in containers…Bamboo
  • Cannabis - All species…Hemp, Marijuana
  • Hedera…Ivy
  • Nerium…Oleander

Our next issue in June will share the Spring Garden Beautiful Contest
Winners. Enjoy Springtime in the garden.
