Food & Beverage Update

Just a reminder that the Bluewater Lounge is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays from 3pm-8pm, with live music on Thursdays from 4pm-7pm! The Bluewater Lounge is a community meeting place designed for socializing and gathering in a cozy space with friends and neighbors.

Please join us for some signature cocktails, California wines, and our new menu that focuses on grazing and sharing. The new lounge is a space to socialize and enjoy small plates with friends in a cozy, relaxed setting. Some of our most popular dishes include Korean Short Ribs served with Kimchee from Sonoma Meat Co., our house-made Margharita Flat Bread, and our Charcuterie Board served with fresh cheeses and meat from Valley Ford Cheese Co. Try the Skillet Garlic Shrimp, a staff favorite!

In addition to our current menu, we will be incorporating Daily Specials starting mid-October.

As some of you may know, we have also launched a new online ordering system which allows you to place your food orders via the QR Code at your seat. We recommend setting up an account for this prior to your arrival to expedite the process while you are here.

To create an account:

  3. You will then be prompted to create a username and password.

If you do not wish to create an account, listed below are some instructions on how to navigate the new system once you are here.

  2. Select menu items and hit "Add to Order".
  3. Once you are finished selecting your items, hit "View Cart".
  4. You will be taken to the next page which allows you to review your order.
  5. Input BHHA22 under "Promo Code" to receive your member discount.

    -Name, Email, Phone Number
*Please include your Parcel Number after your name*

At this time, all food orders will be taken through the online ordering system but you may continue to purchase drinks at the bar.

Please bear with us during this transition and be patient and kind to our staff, as this is new to everyone. This new system allows us to keep our doors open with the limited staff we have so we appreciate your understanding.

We look forward to seeing you!

Thank you,

Community Rules

GUESTS AND RENTERS IN THE HARBOUR

Many Harbour owners rent their homes or invite family members and friends as guests to use their home. We are located in a wonderful seaside community where tourists and others love to visit. Owners should share the association’s rules and inform renters and guests that this is a residential community with many permanent residents. Access to amenities, the beach access trails, and other Harbour activities may vary for persons who are not owners.

Here are a few suggestions and association rules that will assist all Harbour residents and visitors:

Tell Neighbors and Administration Whether You Are Living in Your Home or Renting It

For the community’s safety and security, you should inform the Administration if you rent your home on a short- or long-term basis and provide the name/contact information for a local contact person. That person may be the owner, a property manager, or other Harbour resident who can respond when matters arise concerning the home.

Tell Your Guests and Renters About Association Rules

The Association “Rules, Procedures and Fines” explain the allowable use of Common Areas and Amenities. A copy of these rules can be found at BHHA.org > Documents.

A copy of the Notice to Guests owners should provide to all renters, visitors and guests is here:

Notice to Guests

Tell Your Guests and Renters Which Amenities They Can Access

The Use of Amenities (pool, sauna, tennis courts, exercise facility are set out in the BHHA Use of Amenities Policy (Association “Rule 9”).

The Board of Directors is currently taking comments on a revision of Rule 9, Use of Amenities. Owners were recently sent information on this proposed rule revision. The current Rule 9 is:

9. Use of Amenities.

Amenities (pool, sauna, tennis courts, exercise facility) are for the use of Owners, and in some instances their guests, Owners’ family with access cards, and tenants (long-term rentals) with a rental lease of six months or longer. Access by long-term tenants is obtained by filing a copy of the lease with the Administration office.

Owners and family members with access cards and their guests are welcome to use the amenities, with the exception of the exercise facility. That amenity is available to Owners and family members with access cards.

Owners and long- and short-term tenants may use the playground, basketball, bocce, and have clubhouse beach access. (See CC&R 2.4)

a. A BHHA Owner is an Owner of record as shown on the Grant Deed for a lot(s) in Bodega Harbour.

b. Family of BHHA Owners as defined in (a), provided that no more than six access cards may be issued per lot. The first four cards, including Owners’, are free, additional cards are $25 each. The Owner of Record must approve in writing the issuance of all additional cards.

If your access card is lost or stolen you may request a replacement card, however there will be a charge of $25 for each replacement card issued. If you lose your access card, or sell your home, or no longer need an access card, it is imperative that you contact the Administration office immediately so that it can be deactivated.

Any changes in Rule 9 will be shared with all owners in future articles.

Give Your Contact Information to Neighbors and Administration

Owners should share their contact information with neighbors and the Administration. This improves safety and security because you can be contacted if any situation at your home needs attention. You should let Administration know if you have any change of address to ensure notification of Association activities and deadlines.

Owners Obligations To Inform BHHA Administration Regarding Occupancy

All owners and their guests and visitors are required to follow Association rules, with consideration that the Harbour is a residential community. The rules prohibit loud parties, late night gatherings, large events, and many other situations not compatible in a residential setting. Owners are allowed to have larger than usual events (book club or other BHHA clubs, alumni gathering) that may briefly impact parking with Owner notice to Administration/Security of the planned event. It is wise to inform neighbors as well.

Owners and managers of short- or long-term rentals should share their contact information with immediate neighbors. You must provide the BHHA with a 24-hour working number of the property owner, the property manager or other designated representative who can respond to on-site emergencies, issues or complaints.

Let’s enjoy Bodega Harbour together!

2022 BHWGC Invitational

The 2022 BHWGC Invitational took place on 9/13/22. Fifty-two players participated in what turned out to be a wonderful day starting with a potluck breakfast with an overwhelming variety of tasty morning treats. There were enough left-over goodies to share with the Pro Shop, who did a wonderful job with pairings, scorecards, etc., and the Maintenance Crew who had the course in tip-top condition.

Golf was fun with two flights competing for bragging rights and gift cards. Winners of Flight A: Sunny Schalansky, Kellie Froome, Mary Parks, Maureen Nutter. Winners of Flight B: Sue Ohlson, Trudy Havis, Dana Kueffner, Babette Roznowski. In addition, there were closest-to-the hole prizes for members and guests on all the par 3’s and a prize for longest drive.

Following golf, participants enjoyed a catered lunch poolside. Thanks so much to Alex Melgarejo, bartender extraordinaire, who besides pouring our beverages, helped pull everything together making sure everything was in place as we arrived off the golf course.

Sunny Schalansky organized a very successful 50/50 Raffle where half of the money went to a lucky winner and half to ‘Doctors without Borders’ to assist with medical efforts in Ukraine. Thanks to Kim Chapman, several lucky raffle ticket winners also received a magnum of wine donated by different local wineries.

Thank you to so many people who contributed to the success of this year’s Invitational:

The Committee: Brenda Middlehurst, Jane Langhofer, Sunny Schalansky, and Linda Barr (organized our breakfast)

The Pro Shop: Bob, John, Carter and Mike

Volunteer Family Members: Jim Johnson, Carl Schalansky, Susan Sawyer, Ed Dangers, and Rich Middlehurst (who took many wonderful photographs.)

LITERATURE GROUP

This Month:

On October 3, Elaine Ramirez shares
W.K. Krueger’s Ordinary Grace.

At the October 3rd meeting, Elaine Ramirez shares W.K. Krueger's Ordinary Grace with us.

New Bremen, Minnesota, 1961 "…It was a time of innocence and hope for a country with a new, young president. But for thirteen year old Frank Drum it was a grim summer in which death visited frequently and assumed many forms. Accident. Nature. Suicide. Murder.”

“Ordinary Grace is a brilliantly moving account of a boy standing at the door of his young manhood, trying to understand a world that seems to be falling apart around him. It is an unforgettable novel about discovering the terrible price of wisdom and the enduring grace of God.”
(Simon and Schuster)

“…a positive spirit emerges from the novel and leaves a warm afterglow…a testament to ordinary grace…underneath it all is a straightforward crime-solving plot that advances quietly…it lingers in the mind long after closing the cover…”
(NY Journal of Books)

The Literature Group meetings are held the first Monday of each month. (If the date has a holiday conflict, the meetings are typically moved to the following Monday.) The October meeting will be held poolside (weather permitting – please bring a chair if you can).

The November meeting will be held in the dining room at our Clubhouse.

Maurine will send out notification if the meeting has been rescheduled for inside or ZOOM.

HELP KEEP BODEGA BAY LOOKING GREAT!

A small and dedicated group of folk have regularly cleaned up the stretch of Hwy 1 south-east of old town for many years.

You may have seen the "Adopt A Highway" signs showing "Bodega Harbour Sea Gals" as responsible for a 2-mile stretch of the highway.

We now need a few more folk for this important work. The work is cleaning up a small part of the 2 mile stretch, typically takes about an hour and a half for a 2-person team. and happens at most 6 times a year.

Of course not everyone can be available on any given date, so it is not expected that every volunteer will be available for each event.

Cleanups are done on a quiet weekday when traffic is light. All equipment is supplied by Caltrans. Safety is the highest priority.

No need at all to be a Sea Gals member. The cleanup group has evolved to be independent of the Sea Gals group.

Doing the cleanup can be a fun outing, and it gives you a new perspective on Bodega Bay. Passing folk generally appreciate that this work is being done.

If you have any questions or would like to join this community-minded group contact:

Board of Directors

SECURITY IN BODEGA HARBOUR

The Bodega Harbour Association’s Rules seek to ensure all residents have reasonable expectations of residing in a safe, quiet, and peaceful community. Many of the Association’s rules are focused on suggested good neighbor conduct, both in our activities and our communications with each other.

A first step in communications is informing the Administration on the use of our homes to ensure security and safety. Please keep Administration up-to-date on whether you are a full-time resident in the home, or if you rent your home long- or short-term. Please provide updates on this and your contact information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Tell Neighbors and Administration Whether You Are Living in Your Home or Renting It

For the community’s safety and security you should inform the Administration if you rent your home on a short-term basis and provide the name/contact information for a local contact person. That person may be the owner, a property manager, or other Harbour resident who can respond when matters arise concerning the home.

Give Your Contact Information to Neighbors and Administration

Owners should share their contact information with neighbors as well as the Administration. This improves safety and security because you can be contacted if any situation at your home needs attention. You should let Administration know if you have any change of address to ensure notification of Association activities and deadlines.

Contact the Sheriff’s Office About Suspicious Activity or to Report a Crime

Owners and their guests should call the Sheriff’s Office to report suspicious activity (707-565-2121). To report a crime happening now, call 911. This is the fastest method to get the type of response you need in an emergency. The 911 dispatcher will determine whether you need the Sheriff’s Office or the Fire Department.

BHHA Security Personnel

The Bodega Harbour Homeowners’ Association security personnel is tasked primarily to monitor the common areas and Association property, not for individual owners’ home security. Each owner is encouraged to investigate the type of home security or alarm system they may want for their own personal security needs.

The BHHA Security should be called in matters where trespassers are on Association property (common areas, golf course and paths), or when an active situation involves noise, nuisance or other violations involving Association rules. Security is authorized to “observe and report.” At their discretion they make take other action but they cannot themselves trespass on an owner’s property.

Neighborhood Watch

Last year the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office made a presentation to interested Harbour residents via Zoom regarding strategies to deter crime and enhance public safety. The Sheriff’s Community Resources Officers recommended a Neighborhood Watch program as a proven method to educate the community, enhance communication between residents and our first responders, better coordinate and supplement our private security efforts and deter crime in our community.

Additional information about the Neighborhood Watch Program is available through the Sonoma County Sheriff Office’s (sonomasheriff.org)

Fall Planting and Chores

Here in Bodega Harbour, gardeners know that October is an important month for fall chores, and the main month for fall planting.

Some Fall Garden chores:

1. The best part of fall is deciding which bulbs to plant for spring shows. Look at your neighbors and see which bulbs seem to do well. You can always put a few tulips in a container and watch them come up in spring.

Some of the most colorful spring bloomers—including Tulips, Daffodils, and Allium—require a wintering over period in order to bloom.

2. Fall is also a wonderful time to plant perennials, as they will experience less transplant shock and have plenty of time to acclimate their roots to your garden before winter. Once the ground warms, the new plants will grow bigger and bloom more profusely than if planted in Spring.

3. Although it is a great time to plant perennials, it’s also a great time to dig up and divide perennials in your garden that have gotten overcrowded or taken over.

4. Wildflowers planted in your garden in October typically will have blooms weeks earlier than if planted in spring.

5. Time to remove debris from your yard and flower beds. Tidy up your garden before putting them to bed for the winter. Remove twigs, leaves and cut back dead plants.

6. Add a fresh layer of mulch. Mulch is more than pretty window-dressing. Indeed, it helps to regulate the temperature of the soil, gives a boost of nitrogen, and holds in moisture.

You should have no more than 4” of mulch on your beds and under your trees and shrubs. First remove old mulch and add a fresh 2” - 3” layer.

7. Prune dead or diseased limbs from trees and shrubs. While you don’t want to trim your trees and bushes right before winter, it’s wise to remove any dead limbs you see.

8. Clean and winterize your gardening tools. Wash off shovels, hoes, and spades. Be sure to use alcohol to wash away any disease that can infect your other plants.

9. Be aware of the Avian Flu and remove bird feeders and water sources if still on warning in our county. When it’s the all clear, it’s always important that you clean both bird feeders and water sources regularly.

For anyone with a garden maintenance or view obstruction complaint, please complete a “Community Complaint Form” provided by the HOA, which describes your contact information and describes the parcel/address of whom you have an issue. The landscaping committee will come out and take photos.

The HOA will send out a letter of the findings of the landscape committee. These are recommendations. If you receive a letter that you do not agree with the findings, you can request to be on the Agenda of the Board of Directors meetings for the Bodega Harbour HOA held monthly.

Currently, a member of the Board of Directors (BOD) and liaison to the Landscape Committee along with the Chair of the Landscaping Committee have been working diligently together addressing the common area of the HOA in relationship to fire safety.

In planning how best to be proactive to fire safety, the county fire services were contacted for a general inspection of our HOA Common Areas. Happily, the county fire services found from a wildfire potential that our immediate area is at a fairly low risk, because of our location on the coast, and the natural coolness of our environment. According to the Board of Directors, the main concern of the Deputy Fire Marshall is not the common area, but individual homeowners maintaining their defensible space. The Deputy Fire Marshall was, however, pleased that as a community we are addressing the open spaces maintained through the HOA.

If you wish to get a personal inspection for your home, called a “defensible space inspection”, call 707-565-2361. An inspector will make an assessment of your property and provide you with recommendations.

In the meantime, the Board of Directors have approved two contracts in August for vegetation control in the common area behind homes on Cypress Loop in North Harbour. There will be other areas for vegetation control over time.

The most important point, there are pro-active members of our community, whose main goal is to create defensible space around our subdivision as best possible. One member is trying to obtain a grant from the county for vegetation control. We thank them for their devotion to our community.
