Gym Reservations

For convenience and ease, reservations for using the gym can now be made online, at BHHA.org. Please note that the reservation system has been recently modified with board approval—those changes have been highlighted below.

To make a new reservation – log in to BHHA.org, then hover over the Amenities link on the top menu, which will then display a sub-menu called Reservations. Alternatively, you can click on Amenities, and then scroll down to where it says Work Out Facility – that text is linked to the Reservations page. If you are logged in to the website, you can also click the link below this article.

After you get to the Reservations page, click on the Check Availability button. You will then see an availability calendar where you can choose a (30) minute time slot to use the gym. Only available time slots will be shown, within 72 hours (3 days) of the current time. The gym is open 7 days a week from 6:00am to 7:00pm.

After three o’clock, the gym will be open to all members without reservations.

After you’ve chosen a time slot & clicked Next, you will see a form for your contact information, most of which may be automatically filled in from your login profile. You will also be asked for your Member ID / Parcel Number.

When you’ve finished booking your time slot, you will receive a confirmation e-mail and the Administration staff will also be notified. If you need to make any changes to your reservation after it’s been booked, click on your Name on the very top left of any page when you are logged in, which will bring up a small menu and you can navigate to My Bookings.

While you can make a reservation at any time of day, and on weekends, the Administration office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. If you need additional support, contact Janelle Vanderpool during the office hours, at

415-300-5974 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. She will be monitoring the reservations made online and reviewing the calendar.

Masks are required in the Gym.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Community Rules

PARKING IN BODEGA HARBOUR

What to park & where to park is important to owners and to the appearance of the community. First, a reminder for all owners to obtain a Bodega Harbour vehicle sticker for your back window. These are small 2” x 3” decals to identify your vehicle when you are parking throughout the Harbour. These decals are especially useful when owners park in the Clubhouse members only spaces, or in the various parking pods (spaces) throughout the community. These decals are available in the Administration office.

PLEASE PARK IN YOUR GARAGE

Our CC&Rs assume all garaged are used for parking. CC&R §7.4 says “Required space may not be converted into any use (e.g., such as a recreational room or storage) that would prevent its use as a parking space. The Association may establish rules and regulations from time to time for the parking of vehicles in parking spaces in the common areas.”

Vehicles should be parked in the garage; your vehicles that don’t fit in the garage can be parked in the driveway. Last refuge is to park on the street where there is a 72-hour (3 day) limit according to county ordinance. After 72 hours your vehicle is subject to being towed.

BOAT, TRAILER OR CAMPER PARKING

Our CC&Rs address these vehicles too:

  • No trailer, detached camper mobile home, commercial vehicle, truck (or other than standard size pickup truck or standard size van), boat inoperable automobile or similar equipment shall be permitted to remain upon any lot, other than on a temporary basis, unless it is parked within and enclosed garage. See CC&R §7.3
  • Campers, trailers or motor homes cannot be used as living quarters within Bodega Harbour. See CC&R §7.1
  • Recreational vehicles may be parked on a homeowner’s lot subject to these restrictions:
    • No overnight occupancy of recreational vehicles;
    • Not more than 96 total hours on the property owner’s lot in any one calendar month;
    • Not more than four “stays” on the property owner’s lot in one calendar month;
    • No stay will be more than 48 hours in duration;
    • There will be a minimum of 24 hours between any two stays. CC&R §7.4

TENANTS / RENTALS
Owners should inform their long- and short-term tenants of the parking requirements in the Harbour. The county Vacation Rental rules may have more restrictive requirements.

PROBLEM WITH PARKING – HOW TO COMPLAIN
Complaints about parking on lots & in driveways can be made to our Administration office. There is a complaint form online at BHHA.org.

Call the CHP if you have issues with on-street parking in the public thoroughfares.

We love our cars, trucks, boats and RVs, but they cannot be on the street or on our lots for longer than described above.

Let’s enjoy Bodega Harbour together!

PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country. It’s easy to learn and so much fun! Weather permitting, we want to encourage a neighborly playing time every Saturday at 10 am, with the exception of the 3rd Saturday of the month (due to the monthly board meeting). Everyone and all playing levels are welcome! Come practice your Pickleball skills and meet your neighbors who also love the game. The upper tennis courts are lined for Pickleball, and the net height can be adjusted to the proper height for Pickleball. If we have enough interest, we will try to arrange some lessons. See you on the courts!

For those who are interested: four wooden paddles and balls are avaiable for members to borrow at the Pro-shop—you can try out the game and have some fun!

LITERATURE GROUP

This Month:

On September 12, Marilyn S-Jones will share
Ernest Hemingway’s Moveable Feast

At our next meeting on September 12, Marilyn S-Jones will share Ernest Hemingway’s Moveable Feast with us. This work was written at the end of Hemingway’s life. It is based on his Paris notebooks from the years 1921-1926 in which he had detailed his experiences living in the Left Bank with his wife, Hadley, and other American artists. Moveable Feast is comprised of 20 sketches or portraits of Hadley, these artists and the city of Paris.

“This is a book of love, loathing and bitterness…Written with that controlled lyricism of which he was master, these pages are marvelously evocative.”

“Mostly, this is a book about people, and the choice he made among the many he knew remains perplexing…”

“In the final section…the artist arranges to give unity to his book, plead his case with the wife he left 30-odd years before and at the same time curse from the grave (as it turns out) the small handful of readers who will know at whom his finger points – in particular two individuals: “the pilot fish” who led him to “the rich” and caused (he says) the corruption of his purity as an artist and estrangement from his wife, and “another rich” to whom he felt he owed a grim legacy.”

“Two natures struggled in the breast of this Faust – and they died in each other’s grasp, so to say, the lower nature resisting with its last breath.”
(The NY Times print archive article, May 10, 1964)

The Literature Group meetings are held the first Monday of each month. (If the date has a holiday conflict, the meetings are typically moved to the following Monday.) The September and October meetings will be held Poolside at our Clubhouse. (Weather permitting) Please bring a chair if you can! Maurine will send out notification if the Poolside meetings have been rescheduled for inside or ZOOM.

Board of Directors

SECURITY IN BODEGA HARBOUR

The Bodega Harbour Association’s Rules seek to ensure all residents have reasonable expectations of residing in a safe, quiet, and peaceful community. Many of the Association’s rules are focused on suggested good neighbor conduct, both in our activities and our communications with each other.

A first step in communications is informing the Administration on the use of our homes to ensure security and safety. Please keep Administration up-to-date on whether you are a full-time resident in the home, or if you rent your home long- or short-term. Please provide updates on this and your contact information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Tell Neighbors and Administration Whether You Are Living in Your Home or Renting It

For the community’s safety and security you should inform the Administration if you rent your home on a short-term basis and provide the name/contact information for a local contact person. That person may be the owner, a property manager, or other Harbour resident who can respond when matters arise concerning the home.

Give Your Contact Information to Neighbors and Administration

Owners should share their contact information with neighbors as well as the Administration. This improves safety and security because you can be contacted if any situation at your home needs attention. You should let Administration know if you have any change of address to ensure notification of Association activities and deadlines.

Contact the Sheriff’s Office About Suspicious Activity or to Report a Crime

Owners and their guests should call the Sheriff’s Office to report suspicious activity (707-565-2121). To report a crime happening now, call 911. This is the fastest method to get the type of response you need in an emergency. The 911 dispatcher will determine whether you need the Sheriff’s Office or the Fire Department.

BHHA Security Personnel

The Bodega Harbour Homeowners’ Association security personnel is tasked primarily to monitor the common areas and Association property, not for individual owners’ home security. Each owner is encouraged to investigate the type of home security or alarm system they may want for their own personal security needs.

The BHHA Security should be called in matters where trespassers are on Association property (common areas, golf course and paths), or when an active situation involves noise, nuisance or other violations involving Association rules. Security is authorized to “observe and report.” At their discretion they make take other action but they cannot themselves trespass on an owner’s property.

Neighborhood Watch

Last year the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office made a presentation to interested Harbour residents via Zoom regarding strategies to deter crime and enhance public safety. The Sheriff’s Community Resources Officers recommended a Neighborhood Watch program as a proven method to educate the community, enhance communication between residents and our first responders, better coordinate and supplement our private security efforts and deter crime in our community.

Additional information about the Neighborhood Watch Program is available through the Sonoma County Sheriff Office’s (sonomasheriff.org)

FENCES IN BODEGA HARBOUR?

You may have noticed there are very few fences in Bodega Harbour. That is intentional. The Development was originally designed to be open and free of obstructions between and among homes. Views are paramount for all owners.

Article VII, section 7.12 of our current BHHA CC&Rs states:

“7.12. Other Accessory Improvements. All property lines shall be kept free and open. No fences, hedges or walls shall be permitted, nor shall excavations and/or devices installed to maintain natural drainage be undertaken, without the specific approval of the Design Review or Landscape Review committee. The owner shall do such things as are reasonably necessary to maintain the open feeling of the Development.”

“Enclosures and wall screens” are allowed by the Design Review Committee (DRC) in some circumstances. If they are visible from the street our Design Guidelines, Section 5.14, require that they “shall be constructed with materials that match those used on the exterior of the dwelling, unless specifically approved otherwise.”

Screen walls which are proposed to provide protection from golf balls and which extend outside the building envelope may be considered on a case-by-case basis provided they do not obstruct views. The DRC does approve construction not to exceed 18” above original grade in the setback areas, and they often approve retaining walls near the property line that meet the 18” maximum height above original grade requirement.

A Design Review application and supporting documents must be submitted for any proposed exterior improvement. There are height and location limits for any proposed enclosure or wall screen.

For more information contact Dan Belfiori, BHHA Design Consultant at 707-696-5258
(This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

"In my excursions around the community I have noticed that many homes do not have address numbers that can be seen from the street. In the event of an emergency first responders will have difficulty identifying your home if they cannot see the address numbers. This could lead to serious consequences if they cannot find you. Please make sure your address numbers are placed somewhere visible from the street. Your safety is our number one concern."

-Mary Angelo

If you plan on performing any type of exterior renovations you MUST contact Mary Angelo in the Administration office. Exterior renovations include re-staining (otherwise known as painting).

Design Review meetings are held the second Monday of every month. If you wish to submit an application for review it must be submitted at least 28 days prior to the date of the meeting. Applications should be submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. At this time the meetings are held via teleconference, therefore electronic submissions are preferred.

Applications can be found on the BHHA website or reach out to Mary by e-mail.

Gardens to Tour

As we come into September in the Harbour, we are getting ready for the fall season. We make sure our gardens have been mulched, our dead, dying, and leggy plants removed, and replaced with drought tolerant, moist plants.

It might be time to consider bulbs for fall planting. Also, time to consider a winter tree trim during dormancy, while many local birds have flown South.

This month let’s have some fun and consider a garden tour bucket list!

Filoli Gardens
Woodside

Filoli offers 16 acres of formal gardens, 75,000+ bulbs planted, 250 fruit trees, 96 original garden objects, 12 full time gardeners in 1929 and 14 full time horticulturists as of 2022, with 5 wrought iron gates.

Filoli also offers a 56-room mansion, 54,256 square feet, 56 rooms and 17 fireplaces, a beauty, with Georgian-style terraces around the House highlighting the sweeping views. Surrounded by formal English Renaissance-style Garden to the south, walled garden, pool pavilion and more. A special Northern California gem (photo above).

Conservatory of Flowers
San Francisco

One of the top attractions in Golden Gate Park is the Conservatory of Flowers, a must-visit for garden lovers. The building is both beautiful and historic, having been completed in 1879.

The orchid collection in the Conservatory is spectacular. Also enjoy a lush collection of fern and large mature tropical plants, lily ponds, carnivorous plants, and potted plants such as the Vanilla Orchid. The Conservatory also sometimes hosts Night Bloom, when the outside and inside of the building are lit up to different themes.

Japanese Tea Garden
San Francisco

Located in Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Garden is the oldest public Japanese garden in the US. It is a tranquil wander, and its many design elements will captivate you.

The garden contains beautiful pagodas, a drum bridge, koi ponds, and a Zen garden. Many of the plants in the garden are Japanese natives. There are many small wooden bridges and steppingstones. The Temple Gate is gorgeous.

If you visit in March or April, when the cherry blossoms bloom, you will be treated to a stunning floral display. At other times, the deeply serene green plantings invite introspective wandering.

Other Bay Area Gardens to consider:

UC Botanical Garden
Berkeley

Tucked against Strawberry Hill with views overlooking the San Francisco Bay, this 34-acre living museum holds one of the largest and most diverse landscapes in the world.

Gamble Garden
Palo Alto

The historic home and gardens at Gamble Garden are set on 2.5 acres in Old Palo Alto.

The home was built in 1902, and the formal gardens were laid out in 1908.

The Gamble Garden is known for its significant collection of camellias. It also includes a beautiful rose garden, a cutting garden, a wisteria garden, and a formal herb garden. There is also a demonstration garden. Spring through fall are great times to visit.

San Francisco Botanical Garden
San Francisco

The San Francisco Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park features 55 acres of landscaped gardens and open space. There are more than 8,000 different kinds of plants from every corner of the world.

UC Santa Cruz Botanical Garden
Santa Cruz

UC Santa Cruz Botanical Garden, the university’s arboretum is a lesser-known gem that’s well worth the visit. We ask you to explore the Bay Area.

Here in Sonoma County:

Luther Burbank Home & Gardens
Santa Rosa

Medicinal gardens, wildlife habitat gardens and edible landscape gardens.

Sonoma Botanical Garden
Glen Ellen

Sonoma Botanical Garden is an oasis of tranquilly in the Valley of the Moon.

Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve
Guerneville

Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve preserves 805 acres of majestic Coast Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens).

Go on the web and explore—you’ll find places like Full Bloom Flower Farm in Sebastopol with bouquets to go, and Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, with medicinal, edible and habitat plants and hard to find gallon starts.

And of course, no garden list would be complete without Butchard Gardens in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia (photos below). Enjoy exploring and finding the tranquility of formal, wild, or natural garden settings. Be inspired to enjoy your own garden and the different seasons!
